Getting to Know … Health and
Medical Matters

Medical Centres

Within the area bounded by the three villages, only Nyora has both a Medical Centre (5659 0070) and a Pharmacy (5659 0169). They’re very nicely located together inside “The Nyora Hub” - on the eastern end of the Village Square - along with the Post Office and a little cafe. The Nyora Medical Centre has three doctors, two of whom are female.

Outside our immediate region, the Korumburra Medical Centre is at 50 Radovick Street, Korumburra. Phone 5655 1355

Hospitals

Within the Shire, hospitals are located at Korumburra (5654 2777) and Leongatha (5667 5555), each with some different services. Both have urgent care centres, but you’ll need to go to Warragul (5623 0611) or Wonthaggi (5671 3333) for full Emergency Departments. Check Google maps for directions etc.

Other Local Health Services

South Gippsland and Bass Councils have produced a very comprehensive 44 page Community Guide to Local health services and supports. While it contains phone numbers and websites, it’s often difficult to find your local service. Print versions are as scarce as hen’s teeth, so best if you can sight and even print it via Council. Go to www.southgippsland.vic.gov.au and search for “Community Guide to Local Health Services and Supports” and download as a PDF file.

Maternal and Child Health (M&CH) is a free service to all families within the Shire for families of children from birth to school entry age. Centres are at Poowong Pre-school and Nyora Primary School. For appointments, contact 5662 9294 or drop in to one of the Centres.
